What is BMI – Body Mass Index
BMI, body mass index, tells whether bodyweight is good according to its height. As such BMI should not be more than 22.1.
The weight of a young body should be according to its height so that its body will look good. To remove BMI, the weight of a person is doubled by dividing the weight in kilograms.
The most preferred method for determining obesity in young people is the BMI-body mass index. Although BMI in reality does not measure body fat, it can be a useful tool for calculating the weight of a healthy body based on the person’s hight.
BMI is the main indicator relating to height weight, a person’s weight is divided into kilograms by their height meter.
What is Highest and lowest BMI rate?
BMI will classify you as ‘underweight‘, ‘healthy weight‘, will be overweight ‘or as obese’. this category defined by the World Health Organization.
For example: If your BMI is
- Under 18.5 kg / m2 – you are considered as underweight and possibly you are under-nourished.
- 18.5 to 24.9 kg / m2 – you’re within a healthy weight range for young and middle-aged adults
- 25.0 to 29.9 kg / m2 – you are considered overweight &
- More than 30 kg / m2 – you are considered obese.
BMI is different for men and women and cannot be considered hundred percent correct.
It contains only weight and height for scale while body fat content and muscle content are not. For example, Ladies have more fat on their body than men but BMI is the same.
According to the Standards of the Indian Health Ministry, when BMI is less than 23, normal, women with more than 23 are overweight and women with BMI above 25 are categorized as obese.
